Wincing the Night Away

^-- hopefully buying tickets to that concert today.  hoorah.

so it's pretty amazing how much your environment, particularly the people you surround yourself with, can affect you.  since moving into my new room, and spending some much-needed time away from some people who i love, but who have been making me kind of unhappy lately, my mood and general outlook on life has done almost a complete 180 (...that's right isn't it?  or is it 360?  i never know).  I love, love, love my room and my roomies (there are four of them) - we actually hang out and are friends and they clean their shit up and they don't hate me and it's just such a blessing.

along the same lines, I'm not quitting phi mu next year.  every day that decision becomes more and more clearly the exact right one.

speaking of phi mu, I got assistant membership director, which basically means I'm in charge of getting new girls this semester.  i'm really excited about it, despite what a kind-of big job it is.

I also joined band again.  go figure.

oh and I got a new job.  it's a university job in food service (and coffee, which is fun), which i said i would never do, but it's some extra hours that involve working w/ some friends and not very many hours, so it works well.

so basically my life has picked up major since i got back to school.  it's had its ups and downs already, and it involves 6 days a week of early mornings, but i think i like it.  give it a few more weeks and i'll have a much more official report.

hope everyone's having a good semester so far!

Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation
By Lynne Truss

^-- made me think entirely too much about punctuation, and the fact that i found it so cool/good really, genuinely scares me a little.

i don't know why i still have this xanga, but i guess i'll continue to use it sparingly.

now that i'm back from my 10ish days in Chi-town (I love my family, and wish I could've spent all break there), here are some updates:

1. the only shift I'm working at KOMU next semester is Saturday mornings (7.30am-noon). This is semi-disappointing, but they took away all evening desk shifts (that's what I worked last semester), and considering the limited number of people who really do work there, and the fact that I could be working weekday mornings (like really, really early), I guess I'll take it.

2. Said shift at KOMU means that I will hopefully be getting another job when I get back to CoMo, in order to pay bills and start saving for London. When I will be going to London is still way up in the air. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll consider applying my scholarship for the summer, but I'm not counting on much.

3. Grades are in, and I did much better than I thought I would - an A in my first Art History class and my 4000 level, first college poly sci class is enough to make me happy. That and never having to take a foreign language again. Thank God for all my classes being taught in the English language next semester.

4. One week til Texas.

chris pine, my luck is yours.

so outline of Jill's first weekday of break:

1. woke up at noon
2. worked out mucho @ lifetime (which i miss major)
3. learned how to crochet
4. christmas shopped w/ my mommy
5. ate yummy panera
6. watched the Colts kick some Cincy ass

yeah, I could get used to this doing nothing thing. I'm starting to understand how people who expect nothing out of themselves do it, which is more than I could say of said people a month or so ago. still, I think I'd rather feel like a productive member of society than sit around and watch tv all day.

after this semester though, I think I deserve it.
